A carpet cleaner does an excellent job of extracting dirt, dust, and grime off carpets. That’s why one would be forgiven for asking, can you use a carpet cleaner on tile floors. It is okay to wonder if they would be as efficient on tile floors.

Whether one can use a carpet cleaner on tiles is really a no-brainer. A single line would be enough to tell you whether that would be advisable or not but first we feel the need to explain a few things.

What Things Can One Clean with A Carpet Cleaner?

  • Curtains

A carpet cleaner can be used to clean curtains as long as it comes with convenient hand tools. Such a cleaner would have to be portable too for ease during cleaning.

  • Furniture

With the proper cleaning solution, stains on furniture upholstery can be easily removed by a carpet cleaner. The cleaning solution chosen should be compatible with the furniture material.

  • Mattresses

A carpet cleaner can be good at getting rid of urine, mold, and dead skin cells on mattresses. Care should be taken to prevent the growth of mold on the mattress. Also, one should clean and dry one side before washing the other side.

With the help of a portable carpet cleaner, one can easily remove dirt stains off car seats and floors. Hand tools can be used to clean below seats and in the middle of cushions.

  • Comforters

For the very large comforters, dry cleaning wouldn’t be more convenient than using a carpet cleaner. The steam emitted by the cleaner removes resistant stains.

Can You Use a Carpet Cleaner on Tile Floors?

Carpet Cleaner on Tile Floors

As we said before, this is really a brainer. You can’t use a normal carpet cleaner on tile floors. ‘But why not?’ you would ask. The mechanism by which most carpets clean is the problem.

To some extent, one can attempt to clean tile floors using a carpet cleaner. However, the harsh brush and scrubber of the normal carpet cleaners would leave undesirable scratches and marks on your tiled floor.

The carpet cleaner while giving your floor a hard scrub might have undesirable results on your tile floor such as breaking it. The floor might even lose its shine and start looking old. You wouldn’t really want that, would you?

Also, insisting on using the carpet cleaner on tiled floors would put the devices well being in jeopardy. The carpet cleaner might get damaged being forced to do something it was never meant to do.

If you are to however insist on using carpet cleaners on both tiled floors and carpets then one should consider the below.

Hoover Carpet Cleaner

Though not the perfect tile cleaner, if you insist on using a carpet cleaner for your tile floor then consider using the Hoover carpet cleaner. It relatively is gentler on the floor than other carpet cleaners since it doesn’t have metallic pieces that ruin floors.

Bissel Carpet Cleaner

The Bissel can be used to clean the tiled floor albeit carefully. This also just like Hoover, doesn’t have metal pieces underneath and would thus be used on tiles. Its bristles rotate powerfully to rid the floor of dirt.

Of course, the way one handles the cleaners above while cleaning the floor would determine how gentle they would be on the floor.

Alternatively, one can follow the below simple steps:

  • Rid the floor of loose dirt by either using a vacuum or sweeping the floor. Here a dust mop would be handier than a broom.
  • Mop the floor regularly. Rag mops are better at this than sponge mops which just push dirty water into the grout lines. Use clean water each time the water you’re using gets dirty.
  • Make sure to remove any soap residue left behind after every cleaning session and mop the floor dry. Air drying isn’t advisable.

Important Point to Note

  • You can’t use all carpet cleaners to clean tile floors except for the few we’ve mentioned that are made to do that. Some would be extremely harsh on tile floors.
